Laura Ingalls Wilder was born today in 1867. As many of you know, she is the author of The Little House On The Prairie series of books.
When I was a girl those stories were the first I'd read about women being strong and surviving by using their strengths. I also was in love with the pioneer lifestyle. My Grandmother made my sister and I prairie bonnets and aprons to dress up in. Of course when the TV show came out, I cried every week watching the drama.
Her stories taught me about learning to live with the earth and to celebrate the smallest things. They also taught me about devotion to family. I think all children today would benefit by reading her work, especially now when times are hard from some of them.

They only began reruns of Little House on the Prairie last summer on CTS (Crossroads Televisio System) here in Hamilton, Ontario.
It surprised me how much I still love this show ! If I get to come home earlier I can get to catch atleast the second half-hour.
Goodness, you took me back to my own childhood! I remember calling my BFF after each episode to talk about it. I absolutely loved that show and I had the biggest crush on Almonso!
These books were the reason I became a writer. I cried when I read the last one and then realized I could read them again. I have been to her house/museum several times whenever I pass through. I just bought the set for my five year old and we have just started reading them together.
I loved those books! And I can't wait to share them with my little one when she's of age. I think I might actually like to read them all again!
Wow, memories! Great books. I have all boys, but maybe I'll be able to share them with my future granddaughters...in about 15 years...

Heddy: I actually like to re-read childrens books now. They having different meanings to me as an adult.

I also love these books. My oldest didn't like them, but my tween is fascinated. She's on Farmer Boy right ow, and found that one boring until we attended a social studies fair, and it was mentioned that Almanzo was Laura Ingall's husband. Now she is very interested.

Wow, reminds me of my favourite show! I used to watch Little House on the Prairie when I was young!
