Waiting For Fall

Photo courtesy of the Wheat Foods Council.

I am waiting for fall. Any sign of fall, a morning where the air smells just a little fresher, the breeze is just a little dryer or maybe a cardinal on my fence.
Unfortunately we are in South Florida.
There really is no "Fall".
A few times a year in January or February we get a cold snap which drops temperatures overnight to the fifties or sometimes forties. It lasts only hours (ok, maybe a day or two) and then it’s 80 degrees out again.

However, the winter season does bring cooler days with less humidity, everything is still green but if you close your eyes at least you can imagine it. Days are stifling right now and it’s hard for me to focus, let alone create. Plus we have the added stress of having to be "on guard" at all times in case a hurricane hits.

For now I fly around the internet reading about the color changes and the pumpkins, trying to find inspiration. I can’t wait to hang up a fall decoration or buy some gourds to make a centerpiece.
It’s ironic to me that my favorite time of year is Autumn and I’ve lived my whole life in the tropics! Our Halloween pumpkins are trucked in and stacked up under a palm tree for sale, I’ve never seen an apple growing on a tree or lived in a house with a fireplace.

Someday, I hope to have a home in the country and experience the change of seasons. I know a lot of people would love to live here and get out of the cold, but it’s so monotonous. Unless you spend everyday at the beach
(locals never do) things get old fast.

So I wait, September is the longest month of the year for me. I hope to able to breathe in the cool air soon.

Come on up and visit us all here in the (definitely starting to feel like fall) northern part of the country. It's just a quick (*24 hr*) drive up I-75. I'll even let you help rake leaves...
