Haircut Horror

Yesterday was the day, the day I felt strong enough. The day I threw caution to the wind. The day I risked the wrath.
What, you ask did I do?
I gave my son a haircut. Yes, I survived as did he, but oh the trauma!
It started out smoothly enough. I sat him up on the bathroom counter so I could see his head from all sides in the mirrors. He liked this since he loves to watch himself in the mirror.
A towel went around his neck to catch the hair (useless by the way) and we began.
Two seconds after the first few snippets of hair land on his nose, the tears started to fall.
From then on it was a battle of wills.
He cried that the hair was poking him, it itched, it's was in his eyes,
he was going to fall, be careful don’t cut me, and so on!
Tiny bits of hair were stuck to his face with his tears. I try to wipe it off with a damp washcloth with little success. He was sobbing and bobbing up and down as I tried to get the sides even.

I accidentally poked him in the back of the neck (didn’t even leave a mark) and he began to scream! I planned this on a Monday on purpose so most of my neighbors would not be home to hear him.
Now I’m angry (unable to understand his anxiety) and guilty for causing it. I decided it’s good enough. He smiled briefly and we got him out of his clothes to get a rinse off.
I stood him in the shower and began to wash off the hair and he started to cry again because I have to rinse his head and face (I told him to close his eyes but that only lasted a second). He tried to run out of the shower and grabbed the curtain.
Down came the rod and the curtain over his head, he was frantic! I’m crying now (seriously trying not to laugh at the same time) and I grabbed him up in a wet hairy hug, we collapsed together and sat on the shower floor in a heap.
I told him I’m sorry again and again (not really knowing why I felt this way but surely it must have be my fault).
After a minute or two he looked at me and said: “I’m ok now mom, thanks for trying”.
We dried off (tiny bits of hair still stuck all over him), got dressed, had a lollipop and a nap.
I would love to show you before and after pictures but the camera hid itself from view the minute I picked up the scissors.
Smart camera!

I would also like to tell you about some things I learned from this, that would be useful for other parents, but I've got nothing to report. Perhaps you can offer me some tips?
This is my Tackle it Tuesday even though it was yesterday, no strength left for another today!

Hee hee, reminds me of when I tried to cut my little brother's hair once and I snipped his ear and made it bleed!

Oh boy, what a time that must have been! I hope the haircut turned out decent through all of that! I tried to trim my stepdaughter's bangs a few months ago and came to the conclusion that I should never do it again, 'cause it looked awful; jagged and uneven... and the worst part? We had church pictures that night. Ugh!

Giving your boy a haircut is definitely a worthy tackle!

I couldn't help but laugh while reading this. It brought back memories of me cutting my own children's hair. My children are in their teens and beyond now and still like to share the hair cutting stories! Okay, so there may only be a couple because I quit trying to cut their hair after the horrible cuts I gave. ha.

Thanks for visiting, I'm glad you did! :)

There is a foolproof and painless way to accomplish this. I am not connected with this excellent product in any way, but have been using one for about 15 years. Check out the robocut device, which has comfortable spacers to protect you or your little one from the blade, and hooks up to a vacuum cleaner so that every little hair gets sucked up clean. It actually feels good to get or give a haircut with no mess.
